鼻 The Nose
by 芥川 竜之介 (あくたがわ りゅうのすけ)
Summary
Zenchi Naigu, a respected monk, is cursed with a comically long nose that dangles six inches from his face. Ridiculed by villagers and tormented by his own insecurities, he tries a bizarre remedy to shorten it. Success brings unexpected consequences: the shortened nose becomes even more of a spectacle, exposing the sharp edge of human cruelty. Caught between laughter and loneliness, Naigu’s journey explores the universal struggle for self-acceptance and the irony of societal judgment. Witty, heartfelt, and deeply human. The Long Nose Monk reminds us that our flaws often shape us the most.
